Statement from the Country Club of Landfall and the Landfall Council of Associations Regarding July 3 Incident
WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Country Club of Landfall and the Landfall Council of Associations are deeply disturbed by the events that occurred during the July 3 fireworks celebration involving staff, members, and guests.
Our immediate focus is on the recovery and well-being of CCL Security Officer Russell James, a nearly 40-year employee of COA and CCL who has dedicated decades of service to this community. Mr. James is recovering following an unwarranted assault that occurred that evening. We ask the public and media to respect his privacy as he heals.
CCL and COA are conducting a full internal review and are working with law enforcement authorities as they investigate the incident and seek to identify those responsible. We will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement and will pursue appropriate action to the fullest extent possible.
We are also gathering statements and video from individuals who were present. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact us at [email protected].
The safety of our staff, members, residents, and guests remains our highest priority. CCL and COA do not condone the actions that took place and remain committed to supporting those affected while the investigation continues.
We appreciate the Wilmington community’s patience and support during this difficult time.
